About Me

Hi there! And welcome to Adaptifruit! I’m Steph, follower of Jesus, married to an amazing man, and momma to three of the coolest kids around. I'd love to tell you more about what inspired Adaptifruit :-)

My youngest child experienced a stroke in utero that affected the left side of her body. She has limited strength on her affected side, and although she works to regain that muscle, she doesn't have the dexterity to manipulate some toys as other children her age can.

One day, she was gifted the classic wooden kitchen set. You know, the sweet one that allows your child to endlessly cut fruit in half? This typically provides children with a sense of accomplishment and independence, and mimic a task they see the grown-ups in their lives do. However, my daughter was unable to grasp the round shape of the fruit and hold it steady enough to cut. I set out to find a way to help her enjoy this beloved toy.

Enter, Adaptifruit! I fixed a wooden handle to one half of the fruit which allowed her to hold it steady. My daughter instantly began cutting away. The immediate joy that exuded from her sweet little two-year old body was remarkable.

I am on a mission to reach other families who have had similar experiences. If you know a child who might enjoy Adaptifruit, please consider sharing! Children of all abilities should have the opportunity to play without boundaries.
